Smart Transportation Choices

a workshop in sustainable business practices

The second of our NEW! quarterly workshops in sustainable business practices, Smart Transportation Choices is an incredible opportunity to learn about  exciting innovations in sustainable transportation being made in our community and beyond, existing resources your business could be capitalizing on to reduce single-occupant car trips by customers and employees, tips and ideas for implementing changes with ease, and more.

This event features TWO world-renowned speakers on alternative transportation and travel habits: Alan Durning, founder and Executive Director of the Sightline Institute, and Werner Brog, founder and Director of Socialdata. On top of this, we’ll have Whatcom County’s very own Smart Trips commute-trip-reduction program helping businesses with tools and resources to get employees (and customers) out of their cars!

Werner Brög is an internationally-renowned mobility researcher, and the author of a method for increasing sustainable transportation behaviors that has proven successful in cities around the world.  He was introduced to Bellingham in 2004 when he led a pilot project that reduced car trips in the targeted area by eight percent!

Brög recently completed an in-depth mobility survey of Bellingham.  The results--regarding how we get around, the difference between perception and reality regarding our transportation choices, and opportunities for increasing sustainable transportation by people from all walks of life—will fascinate and surprise you.
